NIDA SMART-r Study: Instructions and Study Information

Welcome Page

A young man looking down at his phone

Thank you for enrolling in the SMART-r study! We are grateful to have you as part of our research project.

Keep this email for your records and refer back to it as needed throughout the study. You can also review study information and FAQs here: SMART-r Study Information and FAQs

Hopefully you have received text messages to download the TTRU-AWARE smartphone app. If not, please check your text messages. If for some reason, you did not receive the text with links to download the research app, you can download the app using the information below:

Next Steps for the Study:

Baseline Survey:

After you download the app, you will receive an email or text to take the Baseline survey. This online survey should take about 20-30 minutes to complete. You will be paid $20 for completion of the baseline survey and the installation of the TTRU-AWARE app. It may take up to 5 business days to receive payment.

Daily Surveys:

The day after completing the baseline, you will begin to receive a link to complete a short, 5 minute Daily Survey online asking about your mood and behaviors from the day before. This will be sent via email, text, or both, depending on the notification preferences you selected. You will earn $2 for completing the Daily Survey. Please understand, however, that the TTRU-AWARE app also needs to remain active on your phone. We cannot pay for completed surveys unless the TTRU-AWARE app is still active on your phone.

The study team will receive daily notifications about whether we are receiving data from the TTRU-AWARE app on your phone. If we do not receive data, or you miss a daily survey, we will reach out to you to see if you are experiencing any technical issues.

Study Payment Schedule:

You will receive a $20 Amazon gift code for downloading the TTRU-AWARE app and completing the Baseline survey. The code will come in an email from Capital Consulting Corporation. It may take up to 5 business days to receive this email. Please check your “promotions tab” if your email has such a feature, to ensure you can find the email.

After completing the Baseline survey and downloading the TTRU-AWARE app, you will receive a payment weekly (up to $14) with the amount earned for completing the following study procedures:

  • $2 for each day you complete the daily online survey and keep the TTRU-AWARE app active on your phone (the daily online survey should take about 5 minutes to complete).
    • This means you can earn up to $14 every week (depending on how many days you completed tasks).
    • We cannot make payments less than $5. If you earned less than $5 in a week, the amount earned will be added to the next payment.
  • $10 for completing a follow-up survey every 30-days.
    • We will keep the 30-day follow-up survey open for 5 days.
    • Your $10 will be added to your next payment.

We will send you an email with your study payments for the week from Capital Consulting Corporation. It may take up to 5 business days to receive this email.
